Fresh 48 Photo Session {Prentice Women's Hospital Chicago}

I love Fresh 48 photo sessions, especially when I also photograph your little one at home a short while later. It’s SO fascinating to see how much they change in such a short amount of time. Fresh 48 sessions are typically done at the hospital, (but can also be done at home too) and this one was at Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago. The views at Prentice are unbeatable as far as hospitals go so they make for some beautiful photos! This sweet little guy was born in the middle of winter so the twinkling holiday lights & decorations were still out. It was a cloudy day so the lights were popping. I photograph details like these because these little things are telling the story of your big moments, and are often the things that are most forgotten in the chaos of those first few days with your newborn. If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m a details girl! Check out those little baby piggy toes below. And if you’re a Badger girl like me, just look past the Ohio State swaddle blanket ;) Stay tuned to see Mr. J at home for his lifestyle newborn session and see just how much he changed in a matter of weeks!

Downtown Chicago Maternity Session {Art Institute, Wabash Bridge, Hero Coffee}

I simply adore these two. We met right after Christmas for their maternity session, and it had snowed a lot while I was in WI for the holiday. When I returned and we met downtown for their session, the snow was already gone and it was almost 50 degrees! I was so bummed to not have that beautiful snow among the twinkling lights and evergreen boughs, but alas, we made the most of it with these downtown views. We also ducked in the mini alley at Hero Coffee where the twinkling lights are always on. It was a beautiful evening for a maternity session with a gorgeous couple. Stay tuned, I’ve got Fresh 48 and home newborn photos coming at ya’ soon from this lovely little family!

Sunny the Dog Becomes the Best Big Sister! [Roscoe Village Newborn Photo Session]

To say I adore this family would be the biggest understatement! I met Sunny and her mom & dad at the Horner Park Farmer’s Market last spring and we got to talking after our dog’s met. My dog Emmie doesn’t love ALL dogs, but she liked Sunny and it made me quite happy! (It’s so hard to meet people as an adult and I’m so thankful for Emmie, who is often the ice-breaker!) These two are the sweetest and most genuine people I’ve met in a long time. I didn’t get their info at the farmer’s market, but I had Sunny’s name and found her on Instagram later that weekend. No shame here, I tracked her down! When Emmie DOES make friends, we need to keep them close by ;) Thus began our IG friendship! Later that summer, Ali announced Sunny was going to be a big sister & I’d been dying to photograph this gorgeous patch of wild Asters around this time. So, I asked them to model for me for a quick little sunset session, and we got the most amazing sunset. I was honored when they asked me to photograph them at home for baby girl’s newborn photos. I had the best time documenting this adorable little family of four and love watching Sunny shine in her new role. I only wish I could’ve stayed all day with them. Welcome, sweet baby girl. You’ve got the best mom, dad and fur-sister in your corner!
